Pencil and Marker on Paper by Katie Jackson

My Covering

My Covering

This art began not as a plan, but as a prayer. It was born in a quiet, worship-filled moment during a creative retreat—a time when words faded and only presence remained. I remember the stillness, the songs, and the unmistakable sense that Jesus was near. As I began to draw, the image of a tender embrace took form. The vision was simple yet deeply profound: Jesus, our covering, wrapping His blood-red robe around one of His children.

The red robe, vivid and flowing, became a symbol of His grace. It is the color of redemption, of love that never lets go, of a sacrifice that still speaks. Every stroke of red marker carried weight—reminding me of the price He paid to make us His own. Under that robe, the child in lavender rests. That color was not chosen at random; lavender is the hue of calm, healing, and divine rest. Together, the two colors form a story: mercy meets peace, and grace gives birth to rest.

As this art came alive on paper through marker and pencil, I could feel its meaning deepening. It was not just a drawing; it was a visual prayer—a sacred reminder of what it means to be held by God. The child represents all of us—fragile, longing, and yet fully secure in the Father’s arms. The image whispers, “You are home.”

This art speaks to those weary from striving, those who long for a place to belong, those who feel unseen or uncovered. It says, “You are covered. You are known. You are safe.” In Jesus, home is not a place; it is a person. His robe is not just fabric; it is a promise. Every time we turn to Him, we are wrapped again in that same love—unearned, unwavering, and unending.

The moment that inspired this piece felt both personal and universal. There, in the rhythm of worship, I sensed God saying, “Let Me cover you.” That gentle phrase became the heartbeat of this art. We live in a world that often demands strength and composure, but the Spirit invites us instead to rest. To let go. To breathe again beneath His robe.

Each detail of this art carries meaning. The robe drapes like a sheltering sky—open, soft, and full of light. The child’s head leans gently toward Jesus, showing both dependence and peace. Their hands do not grasp or cling; they simply rest. Even the background, left intentionally uncluttered, mirrors the stillness that comes when our souls find refuge in Him.

When you gaze upon this art, you might first see tenderness. But linger a little longer, and you’ll notice strength hidden in the gentleness. This is not a weak embrace—it is divine protection. The robe that covers the child is the same robe that conquered death. The arms that hold are the arms that shaped galaxies. The heart that beats within that embrace is the same heart that breaks for humanity and still says, “Come to Me.”

In creating this art, I wanted to capture the nearness of God in a form the eyes could behold. So often we imagine God as distant or unreachable, but here He bends low, gathers us close, and calls us His own. It’s the moment when heaven touches earth—not with thunder, but with touch.

This art also carries an invitation. Hang it where your heart needs peace most—by your bedside, in your prayer corner, or near a window where morning light spills through. Let it remind you that no matter what storms come, there is shelter waiting in Jesus. The world may rush, but His embrace remains steady.

I believe this piece will speak differently to each viewer. To some, it will recall a season of loss—where only His comfort could reach. To others, it may echo joy—a reminder that we are never far from His grace. For many, it may serve as a quiet reminder to rest, to stop running, and to lean back into love.

“My home, my peace, my covering, Jesus.” These words became the title because they are the truth this art holds. In a world that often feels uncertain, this piece points to the One who never changes. His robe still covers. His peace still calms. His love still shelters.

This is more than art—it’s an invitation into the arms of the Savior. Every line, every hue, every shadow speaks of safety and belonging. It’s a sanctuary for the eyes and the soul—a place to remember that you are held, you are seen, and you are deeply loved.
